New Vehicle Sales Continue
Upward Climb in October

Cleveland, OH (November 11, 2014) – The retail automotive industry in Northern Ohio recorded strong sales in October, with sales climbing almost seven percent versus the same month a year prior. According to figures released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA), franchised new vehicle dealers in Northern Ohio sold 20,863 vehicles in October of this year, compared to 19,508 in October of 2013, an increase of 6.95 percent. For the year to date, sales are up 6.81 percent.

“The improving economy and most recent drop in gas prices are lending a hand to the increased sales volumes we are seeing,” says Lou Vitantonio, president of the GCADA. “Trucks and SUVs are seeing double-digit growth with steady fuel costs heading into the winter months.”

Despite a slight downtick in sales for the month, Ford remained squarely positioned as Northern Ohio’s favorite brand with local dealers selling 3,412 vehicles in the month. Chevrolet, which sold 2,772 vehicles in the month, came in second, but did register an increase of 6.33 percent for the month.

Honda continued its double-digit growth to capture third, selling 1,996 vehicles in October of 2014 versus 1,611 in October of last year, an increase of 23.9 percent. Toyota took home fourth, with sales that were virtually the same as last year, selling 1,620 vehicles in the month.

With cold weather just ahead, Jeep had an exceptional month, with sales increasing over 67 percent for the month. Audi also had an exceptionally strong month, ringing up a sales increase of almost 63 percent over October of 2013. For the year to date, Audi sales are up over 20 percent.
