Medicare Part D Notice Deadline is 10/15/11
All employers are required to send a notice to Medicare eligible individuals enrolled in your plan on their options for Medicare Part D coverage. This notice is required to be sent by October 15th. Since you may not always know which employees or dependents are Medicare eligible, we recommend you simply give this notice to all enrolled employees. Attached is a model notice that you may use to comply with this requirement. You need only place the name of your dealership in where it states [Insert Name of Dealer] (we have highlighted in yellow where you need to add the name). Briefly, this notice only informs employees that if they are eligible for it they can choose Medicare Part D coverage, that the coverage they have today is “creditable”, and that because it is creditable employees would not have to pay a late entrant penalty if they elected the coverage. You do not need to counsel employees on their options or take any further steps beyond sending this notice.
