Negligible Decline in August New Vehicle Sales,
Sales for Year Still Up
Cleveland, OH (September 9, 2014) – Sales of new vehicles indicated a negligible decline in August when comparing the month against August of 2013, according to figures released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA). Sales for the year to date are up six percent.
Franchised new vehicle dealers in Northern Ohio sold 21,583 vehicles in August of this year compared with 21,719 vehicles sold in August of 2013, a decline of 0.63 percent. It marked the first decline in sales in 19 months.
“While sales were off, overall the market remains very strong,” says Louis A. Vitantonio, Jr., president of the GCADA. “We’re also coming up against some very strong sales figures from a year ago. With more available financing and attractive leases, we’re confident that the market will still see growth year over year.”
Ford continued its reign as Northern Ohio’s best selling brand, selling 3,781 vehicles in August, an increase of more than five percent over August of 2013. Chevrolet came in second with 2,671 vehicles sold in the month. Honda and Toyota continued to battle for third place, with Toyota edging out its rival, selling 1,924 vehicles to Honda’s 1,901 vehicles in the month.
Infiniti continued its upward climb, ringing up a sales increase of almost 20 percent for the month, when comparing it to the same month a year prior. Land Rover and Jeep both had excellent months, registering sales increases of more than 66 percent and 48 percent respectively.
