Reminder on Disposal of Used Tires
As dealers know, ECH-O Tire Recycling is GCADA’s preferred vendor for the recycling of all used tires generated by members of the Association. ECH-O will ensure that all used tires generated by GCADA members and picked up by ECH-O are properly recycled, disposed of or used for beneficial use in accordance with all EPA regulations. This is a brief reminder on some scrap tire disposal ‘best practices.’
- To eliminate liability from used tires getting resold or installed into other cars, dealers should destroy the sidewall of scrap tires by drilling a hole in the sidewall or cutting the sidewall with a knife.
- Store as few scrap tires as possible at your facility.
- Schedule regular pickup for scrap tires by a properly permitted hauler such as ECH-O Tire.
- If you are using a hauler other than ECH-O, ask where the tires are being shipped and what the company is doing with them. Also ask for EPA transporter and/or recycler paperwork and ensure the paperwork is issued for the company you are doing business with.
- Keep tires stored indoors, if possible, or keep tire piles covered in order to prevent entrapment of water.
- Do not burn, bury or otherwise attempt to dispose of scrap tires yourself.
