New Vehicle Sales Rebound in November
Cleveland, OH (December 8, 2016) – Powered by strong sales of trucks and SUVs, total new vehicle sales rebounded nicely in November with dealers selling almost six percent more vehicles than they did in November of 2015. New vehicle dealers sold 18,692 last month compared to 17,661 in November of 2015, according to figures released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA).
“November sales rebounded with a showing of strong truck sales coupled with cars virtually flat with 2015,” said Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the GCADA. “With improved optimism regarding the U.S. economy, we are headed for a strong close of 2016.”
Continuing a trend seen for the last 11 months, truck and SUV sales drove the market, with dealers selling 7,468 units last month compared to 6,359 units in November of 2015, an increase of 17.28 percent. New car sales were flat with last year, with dealers selling 11,234 vehicles in the month, just 68 vehicles less than they did in November of 2015.
Through the end of November, franchised new vehicle dealers across Northern Ohio have sold 225,489 vehicles compared with 231,186 last year at this time, a decrease of 2.46 percent. Meanwhile, sales of trucks and SUVs are up 7.52 percent this year through the end of November.
Ford sold 2,831 new vehicles in the month, 21 vehicles more than it did in November of 2015. But the Blue Oval gave up its spot as Northern Ohio’s best-selling brand in the month to Chevrolet, which sold 3,028 vehicles in the month—an increase of almost 19 percent. Honda took home the bronze, selling 1,506 new vehicles in the month compared to 1,395 for Toyota. Honda also rang up double digit growth when comparing November of 2016 with November of 2015.
Luxury brands fared well, with Audi, Buick, Cadillac, Infiniti, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche all registering double digit gains for the month. While its volume numbers are lower than many of its competitors, Jaguar continued to knock it out of the park when it comes to its percentage of increase over 2015. The Leaping Feline was up 625 percent last month and is up over 92 percent for the year to date.
