FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cleveland, OH – New motor vehicle sales in 2024 topped the previous year’s sales by a margin of 3.99 percent, according to figures released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA). Franchised dealers in Northern Ohio recorded 219,200 new vehicle sales, compared to 210,789 in 2023.
In December of 2024 dealers sold 18,602 new cars, trucks and SUVs, an increase of 16.5 percent compared to the same month a year prior.
“December new vehicle sales rounded out 2024 on a positive note, as Northern Ohio consumers see beneficial economic indicators after the election season,” says Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the GCADA. “Overall, new vehicle sales gained single digits over 2023 and used vehicle sales were essentially flat.”
“Affordability is still a concern for both new and used vehicle consumers, but we believe new vehicle sales will show growth of 3 to 4 percent in 2025, as interest rates fall and incentives continue to increase. Additionally, the Cleveland Auto Show, which provides an annual boost to sales in the month of March is right around the corner.”
Used vehicle sales last year totaled 219,200, a decrease of 1.09 percent from 2023.
At year end, Chevrolet remained the region’s best-selling brand, with 2,547 new vehicles sold in the month, and 30,234 in all of 2024. Ford’s second place finish resulted from 2,234 sales in December, followed by Honda with 1,690 new vehicle sales. Toyota and Kia rounded out the top five with 1,438 and 1,385 sales, respectively.
