FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cleveland, OH – Area franchised new motor vehicle dealers sold 18,628 new motor vehicles last month, according to data released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA). When compared to May last year, sales are down by 3.97 percent.
“We are seeing the effect of economic uncertainty on new vehicle sales in the region,” says Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the GCADA. “With affordability being a significant factor in both new and used car purchases, consumers are opting to invest in repairs to their current vehicles or turning to leasing, which has become an even more popular option.”
Year to date sales of 91,008 represent a 5.93 percent decrease for 2026, compared to the same timeframe last year. Used vehicle sales so far this year have also slowed, off by 1.49 percent compared to figures from 2025.
While Chevrolet remains Northern Ohio’s best-selling brand with 2,509 sales last month, others have changed position on the leaderboard. Honda moved into second place selling of 1,997 new vehicles in May, ahead of Ford’s 1,975 sales. Rounding out the top five are Kia with 1,771 and Toyota with 1,515.
