MAY AUTO SALES SURGE

Cleveland, OH (June 11, 2010) – According to figures released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA), May 10 v. May 09 new vehicle car and truck sales increased 24.36% when removing sales statistics for the Hummer, Pontiac and Saturn brands.  New vehicle sales year to date increased 17.5% in YTD May 10 v. YTD May 09 (Statistics for the Hummer, Pontiac and Saturn brands were removed). Ford continued to lead all automakers followed by Chevrolet and Honda for Northern Ohio new vehicle sales.

“Consumers returned to the showrooms as May motor vehicle sales continued to rise year to date.  Despite fewer incentives sales remain very positive as gas prices hold steady and financing becomes more available.” says Louis A. Vitantonio, Jr., President of the GCADA.

21 Brands Up April (‘10 v. ‘09)

The following twenty-three brands posted sales increases in April ‘10 versus April ‘09: Acura, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota, and Volkswagen.

22 Brands Up Year-to-Date

Through April, 2010, twenty-one brands posted year-to-date sales increases in the region.  They are: Acura, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo.

Retail sales figures are based on vehicle registration reports from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.  Vehicle sales data includes the counties of: Ashland, Ashtabula, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Holmes, Huron, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Tuscarawas and Wayne.
