REGIONAL SALES OUTPACE NATIONAL DECLINE IN AUGUST

Cleveland, OH (September 10, 2010) – According to figures released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA), August 10 v. August 09 new vehicle car and truck sales decreased 8% when removing sales statistics for the Hummer, Pontiac and Saturn brands.  New vehicle sales year to date increased 8.82% YTD August 10 v. August 09. Ford continued to lead all automakers followed by Chevrolet, Toyota and Honda for Northern Ohio new vehicle sales.

“Nationally new car sales were off by over 21% in August 2010 versus 2009, however Northern Ohio new vehicles sales outpaced the national decline by 13%.  Used vehicle sales regionally were up in August 2010 over 27% based on sluggish used car sales when cash for clunkers program was in effect in August 2009.” says Louis A. Vitantonio, Jr., President of the GCADA.

18 Brands Up August (‘10 v. ‘09)

The following eighteen brands posted sales increases in August ‘10 versus August ‘09: Acura, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, GMC, Hyundai, Infiniti, Jaguar, Kia, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Saab, and Volkswagen.

22 Brands Up Year-to-Date

Through August, 2010, twenty-two brands posted year-to-date sales increases in the region.  They are: Acura, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Toyota, and Volkswagen.

Retail sales figures are based on vehicle registration reports from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.  Vehicle sales data includes the counties of: Ashland, Ashtabula, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Holmes, Huron, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Tuscarawas and Wayne.
