GCADA Donates $30,000 to
Help the Crawford Collection Put Technology on Display

Cleveland, OH (January 24, 2013)The Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA) has given a gift of $30,000 to support the Crawford Auto Aviation Collection’s new display, entitled “Setting the World in Motion.” The new display, which is a part of the massive renovations underway at the Western Reserve Historical Society (WRHS) on University Circle, opens its doors to the public on Saturday, Feb. 2.

The gift to the WRHS is the most recent of several philanthropic endeavors taken on by GCADA through its Auto Dealer Educational Assistance Foundation (ADEAF) in the past year. The GCADA also more than doubled its scholarship program last year, as well as donating a gift of $50,000 to the Cleveland Foodbank last month.

“Educating people on the history and importance of the automobile industry in our area is obviously a very big issue for the GCADA,” says Ed Babcock, president of the Junction Auto Group and current chairman of the GCADA. “There is a natural progression from the early days of the industry, when the Cleveland Auto Show first opened at Gray’s Armory in 1903, to its position today as the fifth largest auto show in the nation. In addition to the Cleveland Auto Show, the GCADA also represents more than 250 dealers in a 21-county region in Northern Ohio.”

The gift to the WRHS Crawford Auto Aviation Collection will be used to sponsor six vehicles of historical importance to the automobile industry in Northeast Ohio. The vehicles include: a 1904 Baker, 1913 Baker, 1920 Jordan, 1929 Jordan, 1902 White and a 1913 White.

“WRHS is so pleased that its long-time partner, the GCADA, has made a significant contribution to its new core exhibit, ‘Setting the World in Motion,’” says Gainor Davis, president and CEO of the WRHS. “The GCADA has chosen to sponsor a major portion of the “Early Automobile Industry” segment of the exhibit featuring six cars representing three important Cleveland-made marquees – Baker, Jordan, and White.

“This sponsorship is particularly appropriate due to the fact that GCADA was the driving force behind the founding of Cleveland Auto Show in the early 1900s. This legacy continues today, and the Association has annually given WRHS space to show its outstanding Crawford Auto Collection to a car-hungry public.  We cannot think of a more appropriate organization, one sensitive to its own long history (est. 1903), to have as such a high-level participant in our future.

“I’d like to thank the GCADA for its interest in and enthusiasm for the WRHS mission.”

The 2013 Cleveland Auto Show opens its doors to the public on Saturday, Feb. 23 and runs through Sunday, March 3 at the I-X Center. Parking is free for the duration of the Show, courtesy of your franchised new car dealers.
