Vehicle Sales Results Indicate
Strong Growth Ahead

Cleveland, OH (June 9, 2014) – Sales of new vehicles rose 3.52 percent in May of 2014 over the same month a year prior, according to figures released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association (GCADA). The continued growth follows a very strong April, in which dealers rang up double-digit growth. It also bests a very strong May of 2013, which saw sales increase almost 12 percent over May of 2012.

“The results for May are a good indicator of the summer months ahead,” says Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the GCADA. “As interest rates remain low and leasing continues, we see continued growth throughout 2014 eclipsing 2013.”

Sales of new vehicles across Northern Ohio are projected to be more than 240,000 in 2014. For the year to date, franchised new vehicle dealers in Northern Ohio have sold 98,188 versus 93,809 over the same period in 2013, an increase of 4.67 percent.

Northern Ohio’s best selling brand Ford recorded a slight sales increase for the month, selling 3,726 new vehicles in May of 2014 versus 3,721 vehicles in May of 2013. Chevrolet came in second, selling 3,093 new vehicles for a healthy increase of 5.28 percent. Honda reclaimed its third place ranking, selling 1,941 new vehicles for the month, while fourth place Toyota sold 1,779 vehicles in the month.

Infiniti saw a whopping new vehicle sales increase of more than 131 percent for the month, while Land Rover and Jeep saw new vehicle increases of more than 83 percent and 63 percent, respectively.

The following brands posted sales increases in May of 2014 versus May of 2013: Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, GMC, Honda, Infiniti, Jeep, Land Rover, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru and Volvo.

The following brands posted sales increases for the year-to-date:  Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Dodge, Fiat, GMC, Honda, Infiniti, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Smart, Subaru and Toyota.

Retail sales figures are based on vehicle registration reports from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.  Vehicle sales data includes the counties of: Ashland, Ashtabula, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Holmes, Huron, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Tuscarawas and Wayne.
