November Truck Sales Surge as Car Demand Slows
Market Remains Positive for 2014
Cleveland, OH (December 11, 2014) – Sales of trucks and SUVs grew by more than 6 percent in November of 2014 when comparing it to the same month a year prior. However, overall sales of new and used vehicles declined 3.41 percent for the month. Franchised new vehicle dealers sold 15,395 vehicles in November compared to 15,939 in November of 2013, according to figures released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA).
“In November, we saw an increased demand for trucks and SUVs as fuel prices continued to decline,” said Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the GCADA. “New and used vehicle sales slowed in November as we were comparing it against a strong selling month in November 2013. We anticipate December sales finishing 2014 on a strong note and are projecting an increase of over 5 percent for the year.”
For the year to date, franchised new vehicle dealers have sold 225,750 vehicles this year compared to 212,886 through November of last year, an increase of 6.04 percent.
In Northern Ohio, Ford continued to lead all brands with 2,452 vehicles sold in the month, leading its rival Chevrolet, which sold 1,995 vehicles. Honda sold 1,334 vehicles to take home third over fourth place Toyota, which sold 1,246 vehicles in the month. Infiniti, Jaguar, Mini and Porsche were the big winners in November, each brand registering strong double-digit growth for the month. Chrysler also enjoyed a strong month, selling 343 vehicles compared to 292 in November of 2013, an increase of 17.47 percent.
