New Vehicle Sales
Continue to Inch Upward

Cleveland, OH (November 10, 2015) – Franchised new vehicle dealers in Northern Ohio sold 21,049 vehicles in October, just 186 vehicles more than dealers sold in October 2014, an increase of less than one percent. For the year to date, sales of new vehicles are up 1.51 percent.

“The good news is that the market is continuing to grow, albeit at a slower rate,” says Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA). “We’re still projecting that new car, truck and SUV sales will grow to 248,746 units by the end of the year.”

For the year to date, franchised new vehicle dealers across Northern Ohio have sold 213,525 vehicles, up from 210,355 a year ago at this time.

Ford continued to lead the way as Northern Ohio’s most popular brand, selling 3,479 vehicles, an increase of almost 2 percent for October. Chevrolet was just 602 vehicles behind Ford, but rang up an increase of 3.79 percent for the month. Toyota overtook Honda for third place, selling 1,753 vehicles to Honda’s 1,665. Toyota registered an increase of 8.21 percent when comparing October of 2015 with October of last year.

Big double-digit sales increases for October were garnered by Volvo, Ram, Porsche, Nissan, Maserati, Lincoln, Land Rover, Infiniti and BMW.

The following brands posted sales increases in October of 2015 versus October of 2014: BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Hyundai, Infiniti, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lincoln, Maserati, Nissan, Porsche, Ram, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo.

The following brands have posted sales increases year-to-date through October of 2015: Acura, Audi, Chevrolet, Chrysler, GMC, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lincoln, Mazda, Mini, Nissan, Porsche, Ram, Subaru and Volvo.

Retail sales figures are based on vehicle registration reports from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.  Vehicle sales data includes the counties of: Ashland, Ashtabula, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Holmes, Huron, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Tuscarawas and Wayne.
