News Release: December New Vehicle Registrations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Cleveland, OH – In December of 2022, new motor vehicle sales were almost identical to the same month in 2021, the difference of one more vehicle sold. According to figures released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA), franchised dealers in Northern Ohio sold 197,164 new cars, trucks and SUVs in 2022, a decrease of 16.47 percent compared to the total sales in 2021.

“New vehicle sales in December were exactly in line with 2021, although 2022 new vehicle sales were off as we continued to battle for vehicle availability,” says Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the GCADA. “The inventories have slowly improved, but newer factors including high interest rates have slowed the pace of sales. We anticipate 2023 being very similar, with consumers having increasingly more in-stock and low-wait choices available in the upcoming year.”

At year end, Ford took over as the region’s best-selling brand, with 2,218 new vehicles sold. Chevrolet came in second place with 1,674 sales in December. Honda followed, capturing third place with 1,542 vehicle sales, ahead of Jeep’s 1,327.
