News Release: Sept. New Vehicle Registrations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Cleveland, OH – With 17,391 new cars, trucks and SUVs sold in September, Northern Ohio franchised motor vehicle dealers came out ahead of last year’s figures by a margin of 5.2 percent. According to figures released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA), dealers in the region sold 6.55 percent more new vehicles so far in 2023 than in the same timeframe last year.

“New vehicle sales continue to grow, still showing gains over last September and the previous year to date,” says Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the GCADA. “However, used vehicle sales have taken a hit, with pre-owned vehicle sales down this month, compared to last year.”

Used vehicle registrations show 17,167 sales last month, compared to 19,039 in September of 2022, a difference of 9.83 percent. For the year to date, used vehicle sales are down by 5.51 percent in 2023 versus a year ago.

“Affordability is still a concern, and more consumers in the market for new vehicles are finding better available interest rates, manufacturer or finance incentives, and/or some discounting. We have weathered the near-term issues, but the remaining quarter has some headwinds,” Vitantonio added.

Chevrolet remains Northern Ohio’s best-selling brand, with 2,384 new vehicles sold in September. Ford held onto second place, with 2,069 sales in the month. Staying in third place, Kia registered 1,625 new vehicles in the region, followed by Toyota and Honda with 1,472 and 1,422 sales respectively.
