Cleveland, OH – Northern Ohio franchised motor vehicle dealers sold 19,676 new cars, trucks and SUVs last month, an increase of 13.73 percent compared to August of 2022. According to figures released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA), dealers in the region have outperformed last year’s sales by 6.72 percent to date.

“Sales of new vehicles continue to grow, as inventories have considerably improved for most brands and incentives have expanded over the last few months,” says Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the GCADA. “Consumer affordability is a lasting concern, with higher interest rates and credit tightening. Regardless, we still see demand remaining through the end of the year.”

Chevrolet took back the top spot, selling 2,877 new vehicles in August. Ford moved back to second, with 2,346 sales in the month. Remaining firmly in third place, Kia recorded 1,820 new vehicle sales in the region, followed by Honda and Toyota with 1,575 and 1,430 sales respectively.

Retail sales figures are based on vehicle registration reports from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Vehicle sales data includes all dealers in these 21 counties: Ashland, Ashtabula, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Holmes, Huron, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Tuscarawas and Wayne.
