FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cleveland, OH – New vehicle sales in January of 2024 surpassed last year’s sales by 13.73 percent, according to figures released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA).
The 21- county region of Northern Ohio saw 18,367 new vehicles hit the road last month, compared to the 16,150 sold by dealers in the same month of 2023. Used vehicle sales in the region totaled 17,795 in January, a slight increase of 0.49 percent over the first month of last year.
“Although positive compared to 2023, January was a challenging month with high interest rates and economic headwinds for consumers,” says Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the GCADA. “The Northern Ohio market outpaced the nation with limited interruptions due to weather versus other parts of the country. With inventory levels returning, there’s no better time to purchase a current or previous model year vehicle.”
Sales numbers are expected to climb after the Cleveland Auto Show as well, which is set to open in a few weeks, running February 23 through March 3 at Cleveland’s I-X Center.
Chevrolet was again Northern Ohio’s best-selling brand to begin the year, selling 2,524 new vehicles. Ford came in second with 2,389 new vehicles in January. Honda came in third with 1,632 new vehicles sold in the month, ahead of Honda’s 1,580 sales.
